Membership Requirements

---

• Hold a rank of Shodan or higher in a Shorinjiryu Karatedo style from the lineage of Kaiso Masayoshi Kori Hisataka;
• Be reputable and in good standing with the larger Shorinjiryu Karatedo community;
• Submit the completed required country registration form, quiz responses and annual fees to the appropriate registrar, see below for information.

 WASK will

• Provide a positive forum to share and exchange ideas of the rich Shorinjiryu legacy  ;
• Maintain the knowledge, friendships, traditions and culture that is Shorinjiryu;
• Become the cornerstone to preserve, nurture and grow the technical uniqueness and signature of Shorinjiryu as a style of Karatedo, while maintaining our own interpretations;
• Serve as an international practical and intellectual hub for Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo;
• Celebrate and acknowledge, past and future achievements of those who have contributed to Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo through the establishing of a WASK Hall of Fame.

WASK will NOT

• Influence the structure and running of any member schools/dojos;
• Charge exorbitant fees or impose upon each organisations financial structure;
• WASK does not require any changes to the existing katas and kumite each school currently practices;
• WASK will not recognise martial arts practitioners outside of SKK who are seeking recognition in this art without having trained it for a sufficient amount of time and do not have knowledge of its syllabus.

All applicants are required to successfully complete a simple quiz . Correct responses to the quiz are required and must accompany the formal application. Both the quiz and the answers to the quiz are available on the WASK web site under the heading, Registration. It is our hope that the exercise will achieve the following objectives:

1. Ensure that all members have a basic knowledge of Kenkokan history, philosophy, etiquette and theory;
2. Demonstrate that WASK has a theoretical component as well as a practical component in its curriculum;
3. Open the door to those applicants who have a more academic interest in Budo;
4. Introduce new members to the text Scientific Karatedo and guide them to use it as a reference tool;
5. Help our members expand their knowledge of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan and Budo in general.
